Boxee!

If you haven’t checked out Boxee yet then you are missing out. Boxee is an Open Source (or free) Media Center application that can run on Mac OS X, Linux, Apple TV and a closed Windows alpha version (you have to apply to try the windows version). The user interface is very sleek and well designed. Navigation is very simple and it makes watching, organizing and managing your media a breeze. I used to use my PS3 as my Media Center hub, but after discovering Boxee I no longer need any other box. It does music, photo, video and lots more.

The real beauty of Boxee is that it feeds content from the internet giving the end user an “on demand” type of experience from services like Hulu, YouTube, NetFlix, CBS, CNN, MTV, PBS, ESPN and tons more.  So you can watch what you want when you want and it’s all done over the web. You can also hook up to your flickr account or even listen to Pandora internet radio. The have also recently opened up a new area within Boxee called the appbox which allows users to add repositories or sources of even more content and apps. I’m having a blast using Boxee and can’t wait to see where this thing goes.

Here is a wallpaper I made for my Boxee Media Center. Enjoy!

You should post this on the Boxee forums. I know most would dig it.

Good thought. Just did per your recommendation. Also posted a 1920×1080 version there.

Boxee is actually quite over-rated. There have been many other Media browsing apps out for quite some time that KILL Boxee in terms of functionality, speed and content available! Check out Navi-X Media Browser for something 10 times better than Boxee and it works on XBMC, Boxee’s shell program. They even have a user playlist based system where people share movies, tv shows, music, podcasts, live streams, web cams, WHATEVER! Boxee is nice looking but I would choose functionality and amount of content available over a nice interface anytime!
