About 6 years ago I met a pastor named Mark Batterson when he came to the bible college that I was presently attending and he shared during chapel what God was doing at his church in Washington, DC. I distinctly remember listening intently, watching the videos and hearing the vision and becoming excited about what I was hearing. It was a breath of fresh air. I thought to myself “Amazing… A pastor that truly gets it and is trying to leverage culture and media to spread the Gospel.” At the end of his message he made an announcement that his church, National Community Church was looking for an intern. I was in my senior year, engaged to my wife, and approaching graduation in a few more months and was really seeking God for direction. I waited around after Chapel to catch Mark for a few minutes and we talked briefly. I told him that I wasn’t really looking for an internship but more of a job… but I was very interested in NCC. I ended up meeting them later in the day to talk and things progressed from there to visiting DC and NCC and in the end coming on staff as Media Pastor and later campus pastor of the Georgetown location.

It’s been around 5 years now and the ride of life at NCC has been incredible. When I first came on staff, NCC was around 600 people and two locations (Union Station and Ballston Common Mall.) Since then NCC has grown to roughly 1600 people and is now at 5 locations every weekend. I was there to watch the dream of Ebenezers Coffeehouse become a reality. I watched the abandoned crack house become an amazing coffeehouse and place of ministry in DC. I was there to witness Mark become an author. From his first adventure of his self-published book “ID: The True You” to his last two successful books “In A Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day” and “Wild Goose Chase.” I watched NCC’s media and tech grow from a rough XL1 camera setup in the back of a theater, with a “who knows what you will end up with” result to now professional quality DVCPROHD 1080i/60 video and developing A+ media all around. I have been blessed to work along side some amazing staff, co-workers and friends. I could go on and on about the great things that have happened.

So now what? Well… In the first part of 2009 God opened up a door of opportunity for my family and I, and we began to look and investigate at what the situation would look like for us. After lots of conversations, prayer and fasting I am excited to announce that I will be joining the team at Fellowship Church in Grapevine, TX. I’ll be working as a media director in the Fellowship Creative department. Super excited about joining that team and working with Pace Hartfield.

So right now we are in the middle of the transition and it has been an amazing ride thus far! I am so blessed to have worked with Pastor Mark. A pastor who genuinely cares for my family and I and wants for us, whatever God has for us. He has been a great pastor, counselor and friend. It’s also been a blessing working with the great leadership team at Fellowship Church. They have been awesome and are taking care of us though this transition. My family and I are so excited to be joining their church family and their team.

We would not trade the last 5 years at NCC for anything! God has done some amazing things in us and through us. We will miss so many of the relationships and friends here at NCC and we hope to stay in touch with many of them. We are also at the same time very excited to see how God is going to use us in the future at Fellowship Church. You can keep our family in your prayers as we are up-rooting and in transition. Lots of details to work out and timing issues to address, but God is sovereign and we have seen His fingerprints all over this process thus far and know that he is going to see us through it.

Stay tuned to see what God is going to do next! =)
